If your home in Lynn Ranch or along the Westlake Village border was built between 1970 and 1982, your fireplace was almost certainly designed for wood burning. The original masonry firebox, the unlined or single-clay-tile flue, and the undersized damper assembly were never engineered for a gas log set. We see this constantly on first inspections in Thousand Oaks south: a homeowner bought gas logs from a big-box store, placed them in the firebox, connected a flex line, and assumed the setup was safe.
